How to fill in and sign Form CG1
Check CG1 is the right return
If you file a Form 11 on ROS, report your gains there instead. Revenue says CGT cannot be reported on the online Form 12.
Pay the tax first
For disposals from 1 January to 30 November 2025, the tax was due by 15 December 2025. For December 2025 disposals, it was due by 31 January 2026. Register for CGT in myAccount or ROS to pay online.
Enter your details and the disposals
Fill in your personal details and tax reference, then each disposal, the consideration, costs and the chargeable gain or loss.
Claim reliefs
Claim any reliefs that apply, such as Entrepreneur Relief or Retirement Relief, using the boxes on the form.
Sign the declarations
Sign and date the declaration and state your capacity. Sign the separate self-assessment declaration too if you complete that section.
Post it by 31 October 2026
Post it to Revenue Commissioners, Government Offices, Kilrush Road, Clonroad Beg, Ennis, Co. Clare. Write 'Freepost' above the address and no stamp is needed.
What you need before you start
- Your PPS number or tax reference.
- Dates, sale proceeds and costs for each disposal.
- The original cost and acquisition date of each asset.
- Details of any reliefs you are claiming.
- The CG1 helpsheet.
Deadlines
The 2025 CG1 must be filed by 31 October 2026, even if no tax is due because of reliefs or losses. If you file by 31 August 2026, Revenue will calculate your self-assessment. Late returns attract a surcharge of 5% if filed within two months, otherwise 10%. See When and how do you pay and file CGT?
Common mistakes
- Paying the tax late. Payment dates are earlier than the filing date.
- Not filing because no tax was due. A return is still required.
- Trying to report CGT on the online Form 12.
- Forgetting the separate self-assessment declaration.
