The model withdrawal form from the EU Consumer Rights Directive lets you cancel an online, phone or mail-order purchase, or a doorstep sale, within the 14-day withdrawal period without giving a reason. Consumers buying from EU traders can use it or any other clear statement. Open the official text on EUR-Lex, copy it into a document or use the trader's version, then open it in BunnyDoc's free Sign PDF tool to type your details, add your signature and date, and download it. The PDF is handled in your browser and never leaves your device.
How to fill in and sign Model withdrawal form
Check you are within 14 days
For goods, the 14 days start when you receive them (or the last item of an order). For services, they start when the contract is concluded. If the trader never told you about your right to withdraw, the period is extended by 12 months.
Add the trader's details
Write the trader's name, postal address and, where available, email address. Traders often include these in the copy of the form they send you.
Describe the goods or service
State that you withdraw from the contract for the goods or service concerned, and give the order date or the date you received the goods.
Add your name and address
Fill in the name and address of each consumer on the order, and the date.
Sign if sending on paper, then send it
Sign only if you post it. Email it or use the trader's online withdrawal form if offered. Keep proof, because you must be able to show you withdrew in time.
Return the goods
Send the goods back within 14 days of telling the trader. The trader must refund your payments, including standard delivery, within 14 days of being told.
What you need before you start
- The trader's name and address.
- Your order number, order date and delivery date.
- A description of the goods or service.
- The model text in Annex I(B) of Directive 2011/83/EU.
Do I have to use the model form?
No. Article 11(1) of the Directive lets you use the model form or any other clear statement of your decision to withdraw. If the trader offers an online form and you use it, the trader must send you an acknowledgement on a durable medium, such as an email.
Some purchases are excluded, for example made-to-order goods, perishable goods, unsealed software or recordings, and travel or event bookings for specific dates (Your Europe).
Common mistakes
- Sending the goods back without telling the trader you are withdrawing.
- Missing the 14-day deadline.
- Not keeping proof of when you notified the trader.
- Assuming purchases from private sellers are covered; they are not.
