Open the 2026 T1213 from canada.ca for deductions in 2026.

  2. Enter your details and your employer's

Fill in your identification details and the employer whose deductions you want reduced.

  3. List the deductions or credits

Enter the amounts you expect for the year, such as deductible RRSP contributions you make yourself, child care expenses, employment expenses or charitable donations.

  4. Attach supporting documents

Attach documents that support your request, such as receipts, contribution details or agreements, so the CRA can approve it.

  5. Sign and send it to the CRA

Sign and date the form and send it to the CRA as the form's instructions say. If approved, the CRA issues a letter of authority, and your employer reduces the tax deducted by the amount in the letter.

What you need before you start

  • Your Social Insurance Number and your employer's details.
  • Your expected deductions or credits for the year, with proof.
  • The 2026 form from canada.ca.

When to use T1213 instead of a TD1

Your TD1 covers standard credits such as the basic personal amount. The CRA's payroll guidance says a letter of authority is needed for other items, such as charitable donations, employment expenses, child care, RRSP contributions you make yourself, or working in a province other than the one you live in. To have more tax deducted, fill in a revised TD1 instead.

Common mistakes

  • Using a T1213 to increase deductions; use a revised TD1 for that.
  • Sending the form to your employer instead of the CRA.
  • Leaving out supporting documents.
  • Using last year's form.
