Form V62 is the DVLA application for a vehicle log book (V5C) when you do not have one, for example when you need to change the vehicle details or did not receive a V5C for a vehicle you bought. Open the official form from GOV.UK straight from this page and print it. DVLA says the V62 is print only and cannot be completed digitally, so fill it in and sign it by hand. Opening it in BunnyDoc happens in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
How to fill in Form V62
Check whether you need the V62
If nothing on your log book needs to change, you can get a duplicate V5C online instead. Use the V62 if you need to change vehicle details or you are not yet registered as the keeper.
Print the form
Open the V62 from this page and print both pages. DVLA says it cannot be completed digitally.
Fill in the vehicle and keeper details by hand
Enter the vehicle registration number, the vehicle details and your name and address as the keeper, following the notes on the form.
Sign and date the declaration
Sign the form by hand.
Post it with the fee or the green slip
Send it to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DD with a £25 cheque or postal order payable to 'DVLA, Swansea', or with the green 'new keeper' slip from the latest V5C if you bought the vehicle.
What you need before you start
- The vehicle registration number and vehicle details.
- The green new keeper slip from the most recent V5C, if you have just bought the vehicle.
- A £25 cheque or postal order, if you are paying the fee.
- A printer and a pen.
Can I fill in and sign the V62 online?
No. The GOV.UK V62 page says: "The V62 is a print only form and cannot be completed digitally." The completed form must be posted to DVLA and not sent electronically. If you only need a replacement log book with no changes, you can apply online instead.
Common mistakes
- Typing into the PDF instead of printing it and completing it by hand.
- Sending a green slip that is not from the most recent V5C. GOV.UK suggests checking the V5C date with the vehicle enquiry service.
- Leaving out the fee when it is due.
