Is electronic signature legal in South Africa?
Yes, with some exceptions. South Africa's Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA) recognizes electronic signatures, and where a law requires a signature without specifying the type, an advanced electronic signature is needed. Agreements to sell land, long-term leases over 20 years, wills and bills of exchange are excluded.
