How to fill in and sign Form KG 1
Download KG 1 and an Anlage Kind for each child
Get the main form and the Anlage Kind (KG 1-AnK) from the Familienkasse forms page, in German or English. You need one Anlage Kind for every child you are claiming for.
Section 1: your details and tax ID
Enter your Steuerliche Identifikationsnummer (tax ID), name, date and place of birth, nationality, address and marital status. Your tax ID is mandatory if you have one; since 2016 Kindergeld requires both you and the child to be identified by tax ID.
Section 2: your partner or the other parent
Enter the details of your spouse or registered partner, or the child's other parent or step-parent if they live in your household.
Section 3: bank details, then sections 4 to 6
Enter the IBAN and account holder for payment. Sections 4 to 6 cover sending the decision to a third party, children you already receive Kindergeld for, and other children of yours for whom someone else receives it.
Sign and date
Sign as the applicant (or legal representative). The person named in section 2 also signs to agree that the Kindergeld is paid to you. Minors need a legal representative to sign.
Send it to your Familienkasse
The form's cover sheet says that if you don't use online identification, you send the printed, signed form by post to the Familienkasse. With a BundID you can instead apply fully online.
Can I sign the Kindergeld form electronically?
The Familienkasse doesn't say whether an electronically signed PDF is accepted. Its forms page says that with a BundID you can submit the online application directly to the Familienkasse without a signature and without printing. Without online identification, the cover sheet says to send the printed, signed form by post. If you want to send the PDF another way, check with your Familienkasse first.
What you need before you start
- Your tax ID (Steuer-ID) and your child's tax ID.
- Details of your spouse, partner or the other parent.
- Your IBAN.
- For adult children, proof of the qualifying situation, such as training or study records, as the Anlage Kind asks. For adopted children, the family court's adoption decision.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out the tax ID numbers.
- Sending the main form without an Anlage Kind for each child.
- Forgetting the second signature from the person named in section 2.
