Add text to PDF: type on any PDF and fill in forms

Type anywhere on a PDF, fill in its form fields, tick boxes and add the date. Then download the finished file. Free, no account, and your PDF stays on your device.

Your files never leave your device. Every PDF tool on this page works inside your browser, and nothing is uploaded to BunnyDoc or anyone else.

How to add text to a PDF in 4 steps

  1. 1

    Open your PDF

Drop the PDF into the box above or click Choose PDF. If it has form fields, they are shaded so you can type straight into them.

  2. 2

    Add text

Click Text, then click where the text should go and type. Drag the box to move it and use the corner handle to resize it.

  3. 3

Add a date, tick or signature

Use Date for today's date, Checkbox for a tick, and Signature or Initials if the document needs signing.

  4. 4

    Download

Click the download button. Form answers are saved in the form's own fields, and the text you added is drawn onto the pages.

Filling in PDF forms without printing

Many PDFs are forms: applications, tax forms, registration forms and permission slips. If the PDF has fillable fields, this tool shows them as shaded boxes, and you can type straight into them as you would in a desktop PDF reader. If it doesn't, for example a scanned form, place text boxes on the lines instead.

Looking for an official government form? Our government forms library opens forms such as the W-9, W-4 and HMRC 64-8 straight in this editor, with no download needed. For more ways to change a PDF, read how to edit a PDF.

What this tool doesn't do

It adds new text on top of the page. It can't change or delete text that is already in the PDF. To change existing wording, edit the original document (for example in Word) and save it as a PDF again.

Add text to PDF: frequently asked questions

Is it free to add text to a PDF?

Yes. It is free, with no account, no watermark and no limit.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and edited in your browser, and the finished file is created on your device. Nothing is sent to BunnyDoc.

Can I fill in a PDF form?

Yes. If the PDF has fillable fields, they appear as shaded boxes you can type into, and your answers are saved in the form's own fields. On other PDFs, place text boxes wherever you need them.

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?

No. This tool adds new text, ticks, dates and signatures on top of the page. To change existing text, edit the original document and export it to PDF again.

Can I add text to a scanned PDF?

Yes. A scanned PDF is a set of page images, and you can place text boxes anywhere on them.
