The Abmeldung is the form for deregistering your address in Germany, needed when you move abroad or give up a home without registering a new one in Germany. If you only move within Germany, registering at the new address is enough. Download the Berlin form from berlin.de, open it in BunnyDoc's free Sign PDF tool, type into its fillable fields, add your signature and date, and download it. The PDF is handled in your browser and never leaves your device.

How to fill in and sign Abmeldung

  1. Download the form

Open the Berlin form from the link on this page and save it, then open it in Sign PDF. Outside Berlin, use your own city's form.

  2. Previous residence (Bisherige Wohnung)

Enter the address you are leaving and the move-out date, and tick whether it was your main or secondary residence.

  3. Future residence (Künftige Wohnung)

Enter your new address. If it is abroad, write the country in the municipality or state field.

  4. Other residences in Germany

List any other homes in Germany you keep and whether each is a main or secondary residence.

  5. Details of each person

Fill in the personal details for up to three people: name, birth name, first names, sex, date and place of birth, religion and nationalities. Use extra forms for more people.

  6. Sign and send it to a Bürgeramt

Sign and date the form and post it to a Berlin Bürgeramt with a copy of your ID or passport, or bring it to an appointment.

What you need before you start

  • Your move-out date and new address abroad.
  • A copy of your ID card or passport.
  • Personal details for each person deregistering.

Deadline and fees

Service Berlin says you can deregister from 7 days before you move out and must do so within 14 days after. Deregistration is free. Temporary stays abroad, such as for study, do not require deregistration.

Common mistakes

  • Deregistering when you are only moving within Germany; you just register at the new address.
  • Deregistering more than 7 days before moving out.
  • Forgetting to enclose a copy of your ID when posting the form.
  • Not listing a secondary residence you keep in Germany.
