The form is signed by one of the people registering, or by someone holding a care power of attorney (Betreuungsvollmacht). If a representative goes to the appointment for you, Berlin says you must sign the form yourself and give them a written power of attorney. Registration happens at a Bürgeramt appointment or through Berlin's online service with an eID.
The Anmeldung is the residence registration form you hand in at the local registration office (Bürgeramt) within 14 days of moving into a home in Germany. Everyone who moves, including newly arrived expats, needs to register. Download the Berlin form from berlin.de, open it in BunnyDoc's free Sign PDF tool, type your details into its fillable fields and download it to print and sign by hand for your appointment. The PDF is handled in your browser and never leaves your device.
How to fill in Anmeldung
Download the form
Open the Berlin form from the link on this page and save the PDF, then open it in Sign PDF. Other cities use very similar forms, so use your own city's version if you live outside Berlin.
New residence (Neue Wohnung)
Enter the move-in date and the full address, and tick whether this is your sole or main residence or a secondary residence. If you are moving from abroad, give the country.
Previous residence (Bisherige Wohnung)
Give your previous address and move-out date, say whether you keep that home, and whether anyone listed has other residences in Germany. A separate supplement sheet is needed if you do.
Personal details for each person
For each person, enter the family name, name as in the passport, first names, birth name, sex, date and place of birth, religious affiliation and nationalities. Person 2 also states their relationship to person 1.
Marital status and identity documents
Fill in marital status, the date and place of marriage or partnership if relevant, and the type, number, issuing authority and validity of each person's ID card or passport.
Print, sign and bring it to your appointment
Print the form and sign it by hand. Bring it to your Bürgeramt appointment together with the signed Wohnungsgeberbestätigung and the original ID documents of everyone registering.
What you need before you start
- The signed Wohnungsgeberbestätigung from your landlord. A rental contract is not accepted instead.
- A valid ID card or passport for each person. Foreign nationals may also need their residence permit (eAT).
- Birth or marriage certificates if you register in Berlin for the first time, as the office may ask for them.
- An appointment at a Bürgeramt, booked through service.berlin.de.
Deadline, fees and online registration
You must register within 14 days of moving in. Registration is free. Some short stays are exempt, for example if you are already registered in Germany and stay in Berlin for up to six months.
Berlin also offers online registration if you are 18 or over, a German or EU citizen moving within Germany, and have an ID card with the online ID function activated and a BundID account. Details are on the Service Berlin page.
Common mistakes
- Missing the 14-day deadline.
- Bringing a rental contract instead of the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung.
- Leaving out the previous address or the main/secondary residence box.
- Sending a representative without a written power of attorney and a form you signed yourself.
