The landlord (Wohnungsgeber) or a person they authorise must sign the confirmation. Berlin's registration page says a rental contract does not replace it. No official source says whether an electronically signed copy is accepted, so ask your registration office if you plan to submit it that way.

The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (landlord's confirmation of residence) is the document a landlord gives a new tenant so the tenant can register their address (Anmeldung) at the local registration office. Landlords or their property managers fill it in and sign it, and the tenant takes it to the appointment. Open the official form from berlin.de in BunnyDoc's free Sign PDF tool straight from this page, type into its fillable fields, add your signature and date, and download it. The PDF is handled in your browser and never leaves your device.

How to fill in and sign Wohnungsgeberbestätigung

  1. Open the form

Use the button on this page to open the Berlin template in Sign PDF. Other cities use the same legal content, and registration offices generally accept any confirmation that contains the details required by § 19 BMG.

  2. Enter the landlord's details

Give the name (or company name) and address of the landlord or the person authorised by the landlord. If the landlord is not the owner of the flat, or the owner lives in the flat, add the owner's name and address in the separate owner section.

  3. Confirm the move-in date

Enter the date the tenant actually moved in (Einzug). This is the date the registration office uses to check the 14-day registration deadline.

  4. Enter the address of the flat

Give the street, house number, postcode and town of the flat, plus any flat number or position in the building that helps identify it.

  5. List everyone moving in

Write the surname and first name of every person who is moving into the flat and needs to register there.

  6. Sign, date and hand it to the tenant

The landlord or authorised person adds the date and signature. The tenant then brings the confirmation to the Bürgeramt appointment, or uploads it when registering online.

What you need before you start

  • The landlord's full name or company name and address.
  • The owner's name and address, if the landlord is not the owner.
  • The exact move-in date.
  • The full address of the flat.
  • The names of everyone moving in.
  • The form from berlin.de or your own city.

Why the tenant needs it

According to Service Berlin, you must register within 14 days of moving in, and the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung is a required document. A rental contract does not replace it. Registration itself is free of charge.

The form also warns that offering an address for registration to someone who does not actually live there, or issuing a confirmation without being entitled to, is an administrative offence under § 54 in conjunction with § 19 BMG.

Common mistakes

  • Giving the tenant a copy of the rental contract instead of this confirmation.
  • Leaving out the owner's details when the landlord is a property manager or a subtenant's main tenant.
  • Entering the contract start date instead of the real move-in date.
  • Forgetting to list children or partners who are moving in too.
  • Forgetting the signature.

Wohnungsgeberbestätigung: frequently asked questions

Who fills in the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung?

The landlord (Wohnungsgeber) or someone they authorise, such as a property manager. The tenant cannot sign it for themselves unless they are also the owner.

Is a rental contract enough for the Anmeldung?

No. Service Berlin states that a rental contract does not replace the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung, so you need the signed confirmation for your appointment.

How soon do I need it?

You must register within 14 days of moving in, so ask your landlord for the confirmation as soon as you have the keys.

Can I use the Berlin form in another city?

The required content is set by federal law (§ 19 BMG), so the details are the same everywhere. Some cities publish their own template, so check your city's website if you are unsure.

Can my landlord sign it electronically?

No official source we checked says whether an e-signed confirmation is accepted. If you register online in Berlin you upload the confirmation, so ask your registration office if an electronically signed file is fine. You can add a signature for free with the Sign PDF tool.

Is BunnyDoc connected to the Berlin registration office?

No. BunnyDoc is not affiliated with the Berlin registration office or any German authority. We link to the official form on berlin.de and give you a free tool to fill and sign it in your browser.

BunnyDoc is not affiliated with Municipal registration office (Berlin-Mitte example). Check that the recipient accepts electronic signatures.
