How to fill in and sign Form TD1
Open the 2026 form
Use the button on this page to open the 2026 TD1 from canada.ca. Use the edition for the year you are paid in; the 2026 form applies to pay received on 1 January 2026 or later.
Enter your personal details
Fill in your name, date of birth, address, Social Insurance Number and, if you have one, your employee number.
Claim the basic personal amount (line 1)
Line 1 is the basic personal amount, $16,452 on the 2026 form. If your net income from all sources will be more than $181,440, the form says you may owe tax at filing time and can work out a partial claim with Form TD1-WS.
Add the other credits that apply (lines 2 to 12)
Lines 2 to 12 cover credits such as the age amount, pension income amount, tuition, disability amount, spouse or common-law partner amount, eligible dependant amount, Canada caregiver amounts and amounts transferred from a spouse or dependant. Leave blank any line that does not apply to you.
Total your claim (line 13) and check page 2
Add up your claims on line 13. On page 2, tick the boxes that apply, for example if you have more than one employer at the same time, if your total income will be less than your claim, or if you are a non-resident, and fill in any request for additional tax to be deducted.
Sign, date and give it to your employer or payer
Sign and date the certification at the end of the form and give it to your employer or payer, not to the CRA. If your employer also needs a provincial or territorial TD1, complete that form too.
What you need before you start
- Your Social Insurance Number and current address.
- An estimate of your total income for 2026 from all employers and payers.
- Details of any credits you plan to claim, such as tuition, disability or a dependant.
- The provincial or territorial TD1 for where you work, if your employer asks for it. The CRA lists them on its TD1 forms page.
More than one job or payer at the same time
The TD1 instructions say that if you have already claimed your credits on a TD1 with another employer or payer for 2026, you cannot claim them again. Tick the box on page 2, enter 0 on line 13 and do not fill in lines 2 to 12.
If your total income for the year will be less than your total claim on line 13, tick the box for that case so that no tax is deducted. If you need less tax deducted for credits that are not on the TD1, such as RRSP contributions or child care expenses, use Form T1213 to ask the CRA for a letter of authority.
Can I sign a TD1 electronically?
The CRA does not say either way. Its TD1 page tells employers that employees can fill in the form, scan it and send it online or give a printed copy, and that employers can create electronic TD1 forms of their own. Ask your employer or payer what they accept. For background, see what an electronic signature is.
Common mistakes
- Claiming the basic personal amount with two employers at the same time, which can leave you owing tax.
- Sending the form to the CRA instead of giving it to your employer or payer.
- Using last year's form.
- Forgetting the provincial or territorial TD1 when your employer asks for one.
- Not signing and dating the certification.

What if I have two jobs?
If you already claimed your credits on a TD1 with another employer or payer, tick the box for more than one employer, enter 0 on line 13 and leave lines 2 to 12 blank.
