Form I-130 is the petition a US citizen or lawful permanent resident files to establish their relationship to a relative who wants to immigrate. It is the first step in most family-based green card cases. Open the official form from uscis.gov in BunnyDoc's free Sign PDF tool straight from this page, type your details into its fillable fields and download it to print and sign by hand. The file is handled in your browser and never leaves your device.

How to fill in Form I-130

  1. Check the edition and open the form

Confirm on the USCIS I-130 page which edition is accepted, then open i-130.pdf from uscis.gov in Sign PDF. If you are petitioning for a spouse, also prepare Form I-130A for them.

  2. Your relationship

Say who you are filing for, such as a spouse, parent, child or sibling, and how the relationship arose, for example by birth or adoption.

  3. Information about you, the petitioner

Give your names, A-number if any, addresses for the past five years, marital history, parents' details, and how you became a citizen or permanent resident, plus your biographic information.

  4. Information about your relative

Give your relative's names, date and place of birth, addresses, marital history, family members and immigration history, and where they will apply for their visa or adjust status.

  5. Print and sign by hand

Download the completed form, print it and sign the petitioner's signature section in ink. An unsigned or digitally signed paper form will be rejected or denied.

  6. File with USCIS

File online through a USCIS account, or mail the signed form with the fee and evidence to the lockbox address on the USCIS I-130 filing addresses page.

What you need before you start

  • Proof of your US citizenship or permanent residence.
  • Proof of the relationship, such as a marriage or birth certificate.
  • Proof that earlier marriages ended, if either of you was married before.
  • For a spouse, a completed Form I-130A and evidence the marriage is genuine.
  • The current fee from the USCIS fee schedule.

Can I sign Form I-130 electronically?

No, not on a paper filing. A USCIS rule on signatures on immigration benefit requests, in force for filings made on or after 10 July 2026, says a valid signature on a paper form is a handwritten one. Typed names, copied signature images, stamps and signatures created with e-signature software are invalid, and USCIS can reject or even deny a request because of them, keeping the fee in the case of a denial. A scan, photocopy or fax of a form that carries an original wet-ink signature is accepted.

So type your answers into Form I-130 with BunnyDoc, download it, print it, and sign it by hand in ink. If you file online through a USCIS online account instead, you sign electronically inside that system. For background, see whether e-signatures are legal.

Common mistakes

  • Using an edition USCIS no longer accepts.
  • Signing with a typed or pasted signature on the paper form.
  • Leaving required questions blank instead of writing "None" or "N/A".
  • Paying an out-of-date fee.
  • Filing for a spouse without Form I-130A.
